WHAT'S NEW?

At Magic Light and Sound, if it's "new and really cool", we're all over it.

Here is some recent new-cool-ness we're into...

7/26/10:

Two additional speakers added: Peavey SP118 subwoofers. These subs contain an 18" Black Widow woofer capable of handling 2,400 watts each. They will be used along side our previous two SP118 subs in our large setup--Total of 9,600 watts of subwoofer power! In addition to sounding great at our large concerts and school dances, these subs will come in very handy if you need the paint knocked off the side of your house.  :)

7/25/10:

New wires!

O.K., I'll admit, cables aren't very exciting. I mean, we already have about 800 cables: Speaker cables, XLR cables, DMX cables, Power cables, Extension cords, TRS cables, Patch cables, And on, And on...

However, in our world of "Tech. Geekiness", these cables are super cool! They are 8 gauge speaker cable and 30 amp, 10 gauge generator cable---600 feet of the stuff!  Awesome! O.K. they are still boring, but if you're gonna cram 4,000+ watts down a single cable, these are a must-have.

7/13/10:

ADJ FS-1000 Follow Spot fixture: Ready to shine!

This spotlight is great for presentations, concerts, and anyone else you would like to blinded temporarily.

7/7/10:

Another Elation SD3 board added to the pile.  This board will tag-along to events as a backup unit. It will be programmed in parallel with our primary SD3 board and will stand ready in case the primary board fails during the event (unlikely).

It's important to have a backup for everything...

7/2/10:

We've added 10  new high-power, LED fixtures to our lighting inventory.

The DMX fixtures contain (18) 3-watt LEDs and will be used for strategic uplighting and stage accent applications. Small--Powerful--No heat--DMX controlled.

6/11/10:

We've added 8 more new indoor/outdoor LED fixtures to our lighting inventory. These are Chauvet Colorado 2 weather-resistant lights. Super-Bright!

These are amazing as stage lighting or as uplighting--Indoor or outdoor--any weather!

6/7/10:

5 new lights!

American DJ's Revo Xpress LED fixture was the perfect choice to upgrade several of our lighting setups. For our large setup, two of these fixtures will be added to our outer T-Bars---placed right above the dual Q-Spot 260's. For the Small setup, two of these fixtures will be placed side-by-side on top of the archway. For our Extra Small lighting setup, one of these fixtures will go on top of the T-Bar tower. Very classy appearance and awesome capabilities!

5/19/10:

2 new lights!

Chauvet's new Mayhem and Line Dancer fixtures have been added to our lighting closet. The Mayhem will be added to our medium and large setups, while the Line Dancer will be added to our small archway setup. Very cool. can't wait to get them worked into the programming!

4/27/10:

"Lil' Arch..."

We've added a second Global Truss Arch to the equipment pile. Unlike our large, heavy-duty truss system, this new archway is only 10' wide and 8' tall, which makes it a perfect fit for the small lighting setups we do for many wedding receptions, parties, etc. In addition to its clean appearance, this mini truss has a much smaller footprint than the typical T-stands we use for small setups. Excellent...

3/30/10:

Just Arrived: 8 new Chauvet Colorado 1 TRI LED Tour fixtures. DMX controlled, Super-bright LED wash lights for Stage lighting, up-lighting, and anything else. These fixtures use large, Tri-Color LEDs which can produce millions of color combinations without multi-colored shadows. The result is a rich, even, blended wash effect. 42 watts of LED power allows for bright stage lighting as well as colorful uplighting, even when the room is already brightly lit.

3/23/10:

Just purchased: 4 new Chauvet Q-Spot 260 LED fixtures. These moving yolk lights consume only about 150 watts each, yet they produce amazing results. They have a 60 watt LED bulb, color wheel, rotating gobos, and prism. In addition, the pan & tilt movement speed is amazing! These are being added and programmed into our 'large' light setup---bringing the total number of moving heads in that setup to 17. Sweet!

3/18/10:

We've added 4 new indoor/outdoor LED fixtures to our lighting inventory. These are Chauvet Colorado 2 weather-resistant lights. What make them so awesome? First, these LED fixtures are very bright. The 42 LED elements add up to 132 total watts of LED output (crazy-bright: 15.000 Lux @ 2m). Second, in addition to R, G, and B elements, there are also white LEDs which allow the fixture to project soft, pastel colors. Third, they are weather resistant. They can continue to operate in a down-pour. All this with only 200watts of current draw per unit. These fixtures are controlled via 9-channel DMX.

We added a new, separate control board specifically for these and other can lights: an Elation Show Designer 1.

3/1/10:

Robot DJ animation added to the video page. Created by Eddy Graphic Design, this 3D animation demonstrates the capabilities of the DJ robot we wish we had in our inventory.

1/10/10:

We added 4 new American DJ H2O LED effect fixtures to the lighting pile. These fixtures use a 10W LED projector to product a moving "water-like" effect. We setup 2 of these with wide angle lenses for floor coverage and 2 of them with narrow angle lenses to project onto walls. Previously, we used 2 ADJ Wave fixtures to create an underwater effect, but these new H2O fixtures create just as much coverage using 1,500 fewer watts of current. These 4 lights are part of our medium, large, and XL lighting setups.

12/10/09:

Look, Ma! No wires!

DMX goes wireless at Magic Light and Sound. We are now using wireless transmitters and receivers to carry our lighting DMX signals from the controllers to the several 'hubs' located on various truss', towers, pedestals, and stands. This results in fewer cables to run, a cleaner look to our setups, and faster setup/tear-down times. So far, we use eleven of these wireless units, but they are working so well that I see that number increasing as we expand.

In addition, we've added

32 wireless relay channels to our

"small", non-DMX light setup.

Wireless is awesome!

12/8/09:

Setup demo animation. Created by Eddy Graphic Design, this 3D animation demonstrates the different size audio/lighting setups we can create for you--from Extra-Small to Extra-Large.

The 3D animated person in the video is no longer with the company. We hired him to star in this demonstration animation, but he just stood there and did nothing, so we had to let him go...

12/1/09:

The ADJ Nucleus LED fixture is awesome! This unit is basically 6 scanners in one. Each scanner uses a 3 watt RGB LED to project around the room. the 6 scanners work together to create an exciting display that moves and changes to the beat of the music. The nucleus is my current favorite fixture (but don't tell that to the other 120 lights in our inventory... they get jealous.)  We use the ADJ Nucleus as part of our "small" lighting setup. It's perfect for dance floors that are 24' x 24' or so.

Q3/09:

Aviom Monitor System added to our concert support inventory. With this new system, each of (up to) 8 performers can custom adjust their own monitor mix from as many as 16 signals. Their personal mix can be sent to a floor monitor or to earphones. It only takes about 15 seconds to train a new user how to make their own adjustments. As a performer, I can testify that using this system the best way to get the most out of the concert experience. A poorly mixed stage monitor can be distracting. With the Aviom setup, everyone's mix can be perfect all the time. We'd love to help you with your next performance, please give us a call. We'll take the hassle and headache out of the mix for you.

Q3/09:

New mixer board added: The Yamaha IM8-40. This 48 channel board is amazing! Each channel has its own level meter which makes setup a snap. No hassle for performers or technicians. There are enough channels support multiple bands with preset, fast changeover times. The heavy duty transport case makes it ultra-portable. All effects processors, power supplies, and speaker management processors are mounted in racks which serve as the base for this board when it's used on the road. All wiring is pre-rigged for easy, fast setup time. Looks a little complicated to you? That's O.K., when you have Magic Light and Sound support your events, this board comes with its own technician--no hassle for you or your performers.
